Seven sections: where the free places are, what the local word for them is, what the law says about sleeping anywhere else, and what to sort before you leave. Countries and individual places live on the map instead.
01 · The sections
Countries, aires, rules, gear and planning
The order is roughly the order a trip happens in: work out where you are going, learn what the stopovers are called there, check what the law allows, then pack and plan.
01 · Europe Europe How free camping works country by country, and where the official free stopovers are. 1 page
02 · USA USA Public land, stay limits and the practical side of a US trip, written for people flying in. 3 pages
03 · Aires Aires The public parking areas set aside for motorhomes across Europe. What they are, and how to use one. 3 pages
04 · Wild Camping Rules Wild Camping Rules Where sleeping out is legal, where it is tolerated and where it is not. Rules and zones, never coordinates. 5 pages
05 · Gear Gear Kit chosen for people travelling to a trip rather than storing gear in a garage. 4 pages
06 · Vanlife Vanlife Water, waste, showers and overnight parking. The logistics that decide whether a long trip works. 3 pages
07 · Planning Planning Tolls, ferries, gas, timing and driving rules. The admin to sort before you leave. 6 pages Start with the rules
Know before you go.
Every rule on this site cites an official source and shows the date we last checked it. Where we have not verified something we say so and leave it blank, because a confident guess reads exactly like a fact. Only officially designated places get a pin: wild camping is covered as rules, never as coordinates.
