What it is like to arrive here.

A free aire de services, meaning the parking and the service point both cost nothing, which is less common than the free-aire label suggests.

The Office de Tourisme Couesnon Marches de Bretagne describes this as l’aire d’accueil communale de Bazouges-la-Perouse, the commune’s own reception area, and lists parking, water and waste disposal all as free.

What is actually here

Fresh water, an electric hook-up and a waste dump point, on roughly 7 spaces at Avenue de Castel-Marie. The tourist office lists water, wastewater disposal and parking as free.

The catch is winter. The tourist office states that from December 1 to the end of February the water borne is purged and emptied. That is standard frost protection across inland Brittany, and it means a December arrival gets a free place to sleep and no water. Fill up before you get here.

Toilets and showers are not listed either way, so use the village before you settle in for the night.

Where it sits

Bazouges-la-Perouse sits on a ridge in the far north of Ille-et-Vilaine, close to the Couesnon valley that forms the old boundary between Brittany and Normandy. It is one of the region’s Petites Cites de Caractere, a label given to small historic towns, so the village center is stone-built and worth an hour on foot rather than being a place you only sleep.

The Foret de Villecartier is just north of the village and is the local walking and cycling ground. More usefully for a trip plan, this is within easy reach of the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, which sits roughly half an hour to the northeast. Parking a motorhome anywhere near Mont-Saint-Michel itself is expensive and tightly controlled, so a free communal aire this close to it is worth writing down.

Being on a ridge, expect the site to be open rather than sheltered.

Check the tourist office listing linked below, particularly for the winter water dates and for any maximum stay the commune has added. A free aire within reach of Mont-Saint-Michel carries more pressure than its size suggests, and that is the kind of pressure that produces new rules.
